Inspired the Artist’s Way classes I’m taking, I decided to try my hand at something I’d always dreamed of doing: painting. Not only did I want to paint, I wanted to paint something for my home (this is on my life list!)
This is the end product:
I chose these silhouettes very carefully, making sure each one had a special meaning to me:
- The tree: I chose the tree to remind me of my roots. Looking at the tree, I think of where I come from and the people in my life that help ground me. It also reminds me to grow tall and extend my branches into the wind, no matter how scary it may seem.
- The sparrow: The sparrow is such an important symbol in my life and you can read all about why on one of my favourite blogs, I Love Devotionals. It reminds me that I am loved and that God is fighting endlessly and tirelessly for me.
- The butterfly: The butterfly reminds me of this quote: “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over it turned into a butterfly”. Sometimes life feels suffocating, like a cocoon around you, but fear not, tomorrow you might just turn into a butterfly!
- The flower: Similarly to the butterfly, I’m reminded of a beautiful quote: “There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin. Sometimes you have to take the risk.
I’m very excited about these paintings and, as simple as they might seem, they have brought me great joy!
What creative thing have you done lately simply for the joy of it?
