We could all do with some more water in our daily routines, especially me. Although I’ll reach for water before any fizzy cold drinks or juice, I’m just not getting enough H20 into my system and I can see it in my energy levels. The truth is, most of us are dehydrated and missing out on the benefits of drinking water.
Some benefits of drinking water:
- Increased energy
- A boosted metabolism
- Beautiful, hydrated skin
- Aids digestion
- Helps your liver break down fat to use as energy
- Helps your kidneys function
The most important thing to remember is that you only have one body and how you care for yourself now will affect your quality of life later on.
So, how much water should you be drinking? Well that depends on your weight and activity level. A good calculation is to multiply your weight (in kg) by o.o33 to get how many litres you need to drink each day (e.g. 60 kg x o.o33 = 1.98 litres of water a day).
The trick is to start slowly and not to beat yourself up about not getting the exact amount you need every day. To be honest, drinking more water than you do currently is better than no improvement!

So now you know the benefits of drinking water, but sometimes we all need a bit of a reminder and a challenge, so I invite you to join me in my hydration crusade:
- Drink a glass of water soon after waking up to help energise your body for the day ahead.
- Drink a glass of water at least half an hour before every meal to aid in digestion.
- Carry a bottle of water with you and sip on it throughout the day.
- Drink a glass of water before going to bed.

Now for the fun part. You’ve got to do what it takes to get yourself to drink enough water, and if that means a pretty new bottle, fruit infusions (berries are my favourite), or sparkling water, then so be it! Here are some of my favourite bottles at the moment:
